Anchored in Hope: What the Hardest Seasons Teach Us About Love
They say that when it rains, it pours. But anyone who has lived through a true storm knows it rarely stops at a downpour, sometimes it escalates straight into a typhoon, the kind that whips the air out of your lungs and threatens to sweep your footing right out from under you.
Looking back at this year on paper, my cup should feel entirely full. There has been so much light: a genuine fresh start, celebrating the milestone of my first book finding its readers and winning an International Impact Book Award, and preparing for the launch of my second book in just a few short weeks. I found deep purpose stepping into a volunteer writing role for Break the Silence Against Domestic Violence, using words to help survivors heal. I spent nearly a month watching the untamed beauty of Alaska beside my mom, stepdad, and aunt, and I reconnected with old friends who remind me of who I’ve always been.
Yet life rarely operates on clean, separate timelines. Right alongside the blessings, a wave of heavy, painful challenges has crashed in all at once.
I won’t unpack the private details here, it’s a personal family matter, and protecting their space matters most. But in the thick of the storm, I have to ground myself in what I know to be true: we are strong, and we will weather this. I come from a long line of warriors. Resilience isn’t just a concept to us; it’s woven into our bones, proven every time the ground has shaken beneath our feet.
Even warriors get exhausted. When life piles on until it feels impossible to breathe, the most radical thing you can do is simply take care of yourself. Step back from the noise. Rest when the weight presses down. In moments of overwhelming uncertainty, when answers are scarce and the path ahead is obscured by fog, hope isn't naive, it’s the only anchor that holds.
Most of all, storms have a way of stripping away everything that doesn't matter and leaving behind a stark truth: our time with the people we cherish is not forever. Don’t leave your feelings unsaid. Tell the people around you that you love them, even if it feels wierd, make it wierd. Love hard, love fiercely, and hold tight - even when loving this deeply aches.
