As many of you know, I am a survivor of childhood abuse and domestic violence. Because of that, safety has always been something deeply important to me. Survivors understand what it feels like to constantly scan the world around them, searching for ways to feel protected, prepared, and secure.
That’s why I am genuinely so excited and honored to announce my collaboration with Hootie Security Alarms
Ironically, my first Hootie came as a Christmas gift last year, and honestly… when I opened it, I had absolutely no idea what it was. Growing up in a family of hunters, my first thought was actually, “Oh… is this some kind of owl call?” Which honestly would not have surprised me at all.
Then I opened the instructions.
“Pull the tab.”
So I did.
And let me tell you… it was DEFINITELY not an owl call.
Suddenly, a 130 dcb alarm started blaring while bright flashing LED lights went off. Needless to say, I nearly jumped out of my skin. But after the initial shock, I realized something important:
This little device could save someone’s life.
From that moment on, I was hooked.
I immediately wanted one attached to everything:
My purse
Loki’s leash
My belt loop when I go walking
My keys
My bags
It quickly became something I didn’t want to leave home without.
As someone who has lived through trauma, there is something incredibly empowering about knowing that if I were ever in danger, I could instantly draw attention and alert people around me that I needed help.
That feeling matters.
Safety matters.
And that’s why I’ve spent the last year recommending Hootie alarms to friends, buying them as gifts, and talking about them nonstop.
One of the things I also love about them is that they are not just for adults. They can be amazing safety tools for children as well. You can easily attach them to backpacks, sports bags, lunchboxes, or jackets so children have a fast way to draw attention if they ever need help or get separated in a crowded place. As someone passionate about child safety and advocacy, that means so much to me.
Now, I’m beyond excited that I officially get to collaborate with them and bring special deals to all of you.
You can now order your own Hootie through GetHootie.com use my code:
"JANE" to receive 10% off your order.
But honestly, my favorite part of this collaboration is something even bigger.
For every FOUR Hooties sold using my code, ONE Hootie will be donated to a domestic violence shelter nationally for someone who may desperately need that added sense of safety and protection.
That means every purchase not only helps protect you, it also helps protect another survivor.
And that means everything to me.
Whether you’re a college student walking to your car at night, a parent out for a run, someone walking their dog, a survivor rebuilding their confidence, or simply someone who wants an extra layer of protection… I truly recommend these.
Sometimes safety starts with knowing you have a way to make yourself heard.
Get yours today, help support survivors, and stay safe out there. 💜
With love,
Shannon Brown
