Survivors’ Anthem Series #35: “Sailor Moon Theme” / “Moonlight Densetsu”

Fighting for Love, Justice, and Survival

Some survivor anthems come from deep emotion.

Some come from personal experience.

And some come from the places we escaped to when reality felt too heavy.

This is Survivors’ Anthem # 35:

The Sailor Moon Theme (English) - performed by Nicole and Brynne Price

and

Moonlight Densetsu” - the original Japanese theme from Sailor Moon, performed by DALI

And for me, this anthem takes me back to childhood… to early mornings on my Grammy’s couch.

Early Mornings and a Small TV

I remember sitting on my Grammy’s couch, watching whatever came through on her limited channel dial TV with my bowl of cereal and hot chocolate.

Early morning cartoons became my escape.

And that’s when I was introduced to something that would stay with me forever:

Sailor Moon.

A Hero I Needed

For those who don’t know her, Sailor Moon is a clumsy, funny, big-hearted girl who was sent to Earth from the moon.

Along with her guardians, she transforms into a superhero, fighting for love and justice.

But to me… She was more than a character.

She was someone I looked up to.

Someone I admired.

Someone I wanted to be like.

Fighting Through My Own Battles

At a time in my life when I was dealing with things no child should have to face, Sailor Moon gave me something powerful:

A sense of strength.

A sense of courage.

A belief that even someone who felt small… could still fight.

She wasn’t perfect.

She wasn’t fearless.

But she kept going anyway.

And that meant everything to me.

Because I needed to believe that I could do the same.

More Than Just a Theme Song

The English theme song, performed by Nicole and Brynne Price, was something I sang along to without fully understanding why it meant so much.

Later in life, when I discovered the original Japanese version “Moonlight Densetsu” by Dali, it brought a whole new depth to that connection.

Different language.

Same feeling.

Strength.

Hope.

Resilience.

The Role Models We Carry With Us

Sailor Moon became one of my first role models.

A strong, compassionate, fearless woman who fought against the odds.

She showed me that strength doesn’t mean being perfect.

It means standing up.

It means protecting others.

It means continuing to fight—even when it’s hard.

And in many ways… She is part of the reason I advocate today.

A Thank You

To the creators and voices behind Sailor Moon, thank you for creating something that gave a child strength, hope, and a sense of purpose.

And a very special thank you to Naoko Takeuchi.

Your work created more than just a story.

You created a hero who showed so many of us what it means to be strong, to fight for what is right, and to keep going even when things feel impossible.

Sailor Moon wasn’t perfect.

She was emotional.

She was clumsy.

She was human.

And that made her powerful.

For a child who needed to believe she could survive what she was going through… that mattered more than you could ever know.

Thank you for creating a world where strength, love, and justice could exist, and for giving so many of us a hero to believe in.

What This Anthem Means to Me

For me, this anthem represents something incredibly important:

The power of imagination.

The power of role models.

The power of believing that you can be strong, even when you feel anything but.

Because sometimes survival doesn’t just come from the real world.

Sometimes it comes from the worlds we escape into…

and the heroes we carry back with us.

Child Abuse Prevention Month

As we close out Child Abuse Prevention Month, it’s important to remember:

Children are always watching.

Always learning.

Always trying to make sense of the world around them.

Sometimes they don’t have the words.

But they feel everything.

And they need:

💙 Safe people

💙 Support

💙 Protection

💙 Someone who will stand up for them

Because every child deserves to feel safe, and to have someone fighting for them.

What’s Next in the Survivors’ Anthem Series

Every song in this series represents a different stage of healing.

Some songs helped me survive.

Some helped me process pain.

Some helped me find my voice.

This anthem represents something just as powerful:

The strength we found in the heroes we looked up to.

As the series continues, I’ll keep sharing the songs that shaped my journey through survival, healing, and strength.

Because sometimes the anthem that stays with us… is the one that first made us believe we could be strong.
