Finding Your Voice Again
Some survivor anthems are soft.
Some are reflective.
And some make you want to stand up, take a deep breath, and remind yourself that you are still here.
This is Survivors’ Anthem # 38:
“Fight Song” - by Rachel Platten
And for me, this song became both an empowerment anthem and a release.
The Power of One Small Voice
The first time I heard “Fight Song,” it hit me immediately.
Not just because it was catchy or emotional, but because of the message underneath it.
The idea that one small thing you do, one moment of courage… one decision to keep going…can change the entire course of what’s happening.
When you’ve survived trauma, especially childhood trauma, it’s easy to feel powerless.
Like your voice doesn’t matter. Like you’re too small to make a difference.
But this song pushes back against that feeling.
It reminds you that even the smallest spark still has power.
Learning to Take My Power Back
For survivors, healing often starts quietly.
Sometimes it starts with speaking up.
Sometimes it starts with setting a boundary.
Sometimes it starts with simply deciding:
I deserve better than this.
Those moments may seem small to other people.
But they are not small.
They are life-changing.
And “Fight Song” captures that feeling perfectly.
The Karaoke Anthem
This song also became one of my absolute favorite karaoke songs to belt out. Because sometimes healing doesn’t just happen through quiet reflection. Sometimes healing sounds loud.
Sometimes healing sounds like standing in front of a microphone and singing every word with your whole chest.
There’s something freeing about it.
Something empowering about letting yourself take up space.
About singing like your voice deserves to be heard.
And for survivors…that matters more than people realize.
More Than Just a Song
“Fight Song” became a reminder to me that strength doesn’t always look dramatic.
Sometimes strength is simply refusing to give up.
Sometimes strength is surviving one more day.
Sometimes strength is finding your voice after spending years feeling silenced.
And sometimes…strength sounds like a karaoke anthem sung at the top of your lungs.
A Thank Yo
To Rachel Platten, thank you for creating a song that has empowered so many people to keep fighting.
Thank you for reminding us that our voices matter.
Even when they shake.
Even when they feel small.
What This Anthem Means to Me
For me, this anthem represents reclaiming power.
Not all at once.vBut little by little. Choice by choice.
Voice by voice.
It represents the realization that even after trauma…there is still strength inside of us.
And sometimes all it takes is one moment of courage to begin changing everything.
What’s Next in the Survivors’ Anthem Series
Every song in this series represents a different stage of healing.
Some songs helped me survive.
Some helped me process pain.
Some helped me reconnect with myself.
This anthem represents something just as important:
Finding your voice again.
As the series continues, I’ll keep sharing the songs that shaped my journey through survival, healing, and strength.
Because sometimes healing begins…the moment you realize your voice still has power.
